Bio

Welcome to Dillard Middle School! My name is Medina Jones. Although I was born on a small island off the coast of South Carolina, I consider North Carolina as a second home.  After graduating from Methodist University with a BA in English/Education, I taught English to Honors and Exceptional Education students.  I soon relocated to Rockville, Maryland and taught English at an alternative school in Montgomery County and at a ninth grade center in Alexandria City Public Schools.  During my residency in the DC area, I earned a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and served as an adjunct English Composition instructor for Westwood College.  After moving across the Potomac River to Fairfax County, Northern Virginia, I taught AP English Literature, Advanced Journalism, and Gifted and Talented English in Fairfax County Public Schools.  I accepted a position as English Department Chair and School Improvement Chair, while enjoying teaching Homebound English, during the evenings, to physically-challenged students who could not travel to school.  These dedicated learners taught me to enjoy every second of life, while exploring learning, in nontraditional settings. I served on the Bias and Sensitivity Committee and assisted with writing and editing assessment items for The Standards of Learning. In Chicago and Virginia, I was personally trained by PLC founders Rick and Becky DuFour for which I am grateful as they shed a bright light on "purposeful" professional learning communities. At Princeton, I was trained to be a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards assessor. When I returned to NC, I served as Curriculum Facilitator, Lead Mentor, and Induction Coach for Guilford County Schools and earned a principal license from High Point University.  I served on the Board of Directors for Open Table Ministries, along with other outreach ministries, and I sing on the church choir.  I enjoy painting nature scenes, working with the homeless and food insecure, attempting to play the guitar, and learning new skills along with my toy poodle Indiana Jones. To this end, I firmly I believe in building the capacity of leaders and learners to become 21st century trailblazers in an ever-changing, technologically sauvy society!
